8/2/21: Lots of ministering

This week the work was definitely focused on members and being able to minister to them. Over the last week we've given about 6 blessings to different members. It's been a stressful time with Covid resurfacing and the fires, so people are definitely in need of some help from the Lord. We haven't done a lot of finding and teaching this week because we've been so busy trying to help the ward, but my thoughts are if Christ was here in Quincy he would be ministering to those in need first so that what we have been trying to do.

We started by visiting the Stokes who are a couple in our ward who are very active in helping us with missionary work. Sister Stokes had a pinched nerve in her arm and she could hardly move because of the pain. We were able to give her a blessing the week before and so we went to check in. When we visited, they told us things were getting better but we should visit the Williams who were an older couple staying in a trailer in their yard because their house was in the evacuation zone. They also got in a really bad car wreck the day before. We stopped by to talk to them, and they told us in the wreck they're car rolled 5 times. Everyone who saw the wreck thought they were dead, but when the went to the hospital the only injuries were scratches and bruises. What a miricle. Brother Williams was certain it was a miricle and I think anyone would have to agree. They were still in a lot of pain but they mad it to church which was amazing to see.

The next day we visited one of our favorite families in the ward. They love the missionaries and its always so fun going over to visit with them. But that day we were checking in because we had heard there was a lot going on in their lives and it was putting strain on their marriage so we felt we needed to minister. After we checked up on them they said they wanted a blessing, so we gave the parents a blessing as well their daughter, and it was a very spiritual experience. Almost right after that we got a call from President that a couple in the Portola ward that he knew personally had lost a son. He had been missing for a while and was homeless somewhere in LA when they found that he had died. President asked us to bring flowers to them on behalf of him, so we did that the same evening. They invited us in and were understandably very discouraged, but I think they wanted us to help them take their mind off things, at least for a short while. We also gave a blessing to the mother, and it was a very difficult but needed experience to be able to minister to them.

A lot of ups and down this week but i guess that's how it is as a servent of the Lord. The last event of this week was sort of and up and a down for me. I got a call from President again telling me that my great grandpa Putnam had died. At first I was sad that he had passed and that was a down. But then I thought of him and my great grandma reuniting in the spirit world and all his other family that would great him, like his brother Lloyd. The thought of that joyous reunion was an up for me and I know grandpa Putnam is continuing to bless lives in the next life as he had blessed mine in this life. I'm grateful for his example of dedication to this gospel and for creating a loving family with my great grandma that I am a part of. I'm sad that he has passed but rejoice to know he is watching me in my service from the other side of the veil.

That's all for this week! Talk to you all soon.

Elder Allen
